My Vintage Thingies Thursday

I have been trying to participate with
Suzanne's  Vintage Thingies Thursday
for a while now but I always seem to miss it!
Not this Thursday I am all over it! So go and check out her blog to see what else others are showing off of their Vintage Thingies :)
I have this ♥ for antique quilts but know nothing about them! I am just drawn in to the color and patterns!

So I am seeking some help here at the same time as showing off the pretty quilt I just found!  How do I date the quilt and how can I find the name of the pattern. The reason I ask is the lady I bought this from said it was from the early 1900's. So before I toss in the washer maybe you can tell how I should carefully wash it also.. ( it smells a little musky from sitting in the trunk)

I just love the colors of this! Simply Adorable

Thanks for your help and looking at My Vintage Thingies Thursday....

Toodles, ♥

i simply adore vintage quilts and you've got a darling little treasure there. i'm only guessing from the feedsacks that it's 1940s. i would soak it in a bathtub and wash it gently by hand.

Hi Renee, while I know nothing at all about quilts to help you ID it, I can tell you I think it's quite lovely and if it's as old as the seller says, it seems like it's in fabulous condition! Good luck finding out info about it and happy VTT!

Great quilt! Lovely fabrics and I do love a bar quilt! I agree with Marion-the fabrics look 40s or even early 50s with that grey. It is very nicely hand quilted too.

The name of the pattern for the squares is Garden of Eden...isn't that a lovely name! As I said, the setting or layout is called bars...as you can see the Garden of Eden blocks are all in vertical rows with long vertical rows of the floral fabric between them-hence the bars!

A lovely quilt and I'm glad it found a good home with someone who will love it.

I have a few memes like that that I always miss too.

Quilts are just fascinating, aren't they? I like to imagine what the fabrics used to be.

What a find! So beautiful! I love the name of the pattern that the other gals told you the name of it.

It seems like I seen something somewhere sometime about how to wash the old and even new quilts to keep them from falling apart. They washed them in kiddie pools in their back yard with a mild soap and then rinsed them in another kiddie pool. They also dried them flat outside. I would google it before I would try this though.

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!

Here's Suzanne's (owner of Vintage Thingie Thursday) directions for safely cleaning the quilt.

Beautiful quilt, and it will be even lovelier after a careful hand wash explained in Suzanne's blog last month.

I don't know a lot about vintage quilts, but I have purchased a few. One of the one's I washed in the washing machine came all to pieces, so I would wash it the way that Marian said, hand wash in the tub!

What a beautiful quilt. Hand wash and dry flat would be my suggestion. I would hand sew a label made with muslin on the back, where you purchased it, date and any information you have on the quilt.

I work at a retail store where we sell lots of quilts but nothing compares to these wonderful old ones!

It is really pretty. It looks like 30's or 40's from the fabric patterns. Glad it found a great home :) Happy Pink Saturday !!! :)
